Music Monday for 09.17.2018 and Other Miscellany

Hello!

What a week it’s been.

  • The 17 year anniversary of 9/11 has come and gone.
  • Hurricane Florence made landfall, and is currently wreaking havoc as I type this up. I sure hope all those in her path are staying safe!
  • More car “research” and “window shopping.” I test-drove a Subaru Impreza hatchback. I am still keeping myself open to a lot of options, but the Impreza hatchback is a strong, strong contender. Just maybe not this particular Impreza hatchback. It had more miles on it than what I hope to buy, I wasn’t crazy about the color, and….the deal-breaker….the sound system was awful. I don’t need a premium sound system or anything, but it sounded like only one speaker in this car worked properly, and the other 3 or however many barely made any noise. Trust me, I did a lot of fiddling around with it before I pulled out of the parking lot! I listen to music and podcasts way too much to deal with that.
  • I got my hair cut shorter:

  • I gave this blog a bit of a facelift. I had to take my social media icons (because I haven’t found a pack that has all of the ones I use), change the colors, resize them, and manually hand code them into the header of my theme because just deleting menus and re-doing them didn’t work. I’m not sure I’m entirely happy with the design just yet, but I’ll probably tweak it a bit more here soon.
  • I started another trip around the sun today! I won’t divulge how many this starts, but here’s a few random IG shots from the day:

That rainbow was trying so hard to be colorful, but it was sunset, and the sky was so red-tinged. Still, I love my birthday rainbow and moon!

  • I discovered a hornet’s nest about 15 feet up in our shade tree in the back yard. It’s a pretty good size, too, and I really don’t know how none of us have noticed it before. I haven’t been bothered, but one of my sons and dogs have been stung. I currently don’t know whether to leave it there and hope for the best, or to get someone in here to remove it. I kind of want to leave it there till the dead of winter so I can get the nest and keep it after they’ve all died. But I still have to make the place safe for my pets, so that probably isn’t going to happen.

There haven’t been any birthday shenanigans (I don’t have a core group of friends nearby, and my little family tends to celebrate when we can all get our vastly differing schedules to mesh for a bit). But I did wake so, so sick to my stomach this morning. I’m still not feeling 100%, but it hasn’t been a bad birthday other than that stain. I’ve watched hours of Jeopardy and Gotham. I still feel yucky, but this can NOT continue into tomorrow.

So by the time this hits publication, it will be Music Monday! I think it’s freebie week over at Dolly’s, and since Cathy at Curious As A Cathy nominated me for the Lyrical Challenge a bit ago, I believe I’ll roll my second day of the challenge into this week’s Music Monday.

But first, the rules:
1. Thank the person who nominated you. Thank you for thinking of me, Cathy!
2. Share one of your favorite songs/lyrics for three days, one day at a time. (coming up)
3. Nominate other three other bloggers each day. This is where I drop the ball, because I’m not sure how many readers I have who aren’t already doing this at someone else’s nomination. Cathy and I travel in a lot of the same bloggy circles, you know!

So here’s my song selection for Day Two of the Three Day Lyrical Challenge:

The Psychedelic Furs – “Heartbreak Beat”

I was into Hair Metal more than anything else in high school, but there were a few alternative songs that I really loved. This was one of them, and I think I was a Sophomore in high school when this came out.

Lyrics
I’m a heartbreak beat, yea, all night long
And nobody don’t dance on the edge of the dark
We’ve got the radio on
And it feels like love,
But it don’t mean a lot
And it feels like love
And it’s all that we
There’s a heartbreak beat, playing all night long
Down on my street
And it feels like love, got the radio on
And it’s all that we need
There’s a heartbreak beat, and it feels like love
There’s a heartbreak beat, and it feels like love
Well, the feet don’t stop, the way you talk so tough
And there’s a perfect kiss, somewhere out in the dark
But a kiss ain’t enough
And the world don’t stop, every time that you call
And the world don’t stop, every time that you call
There’s a heartbreak beat, playing all night long
Down on my street
And it feels like love, got the radio on
And it’s all that we need
There’s a heartbreak beat, and it feels like love
There’s a heartbreak beat, and it feels like love
I’m a heartbreak beat, yea, all night long
And nobody don’t dance on the edge of the dark
We’ve got the radio on
And it feels like love,
But it don’t mean a lot
And it feels like love
And it’s all that we
There’s a heartbreak beat, playing all night long
Down on my street
And it feels like love, got the radio on
And it’s all that we need
There’s a heartbreak beat, and it feels like love
There’s a heartbreak beat, and it feels like love
There’s a heartbreak beat
There’s a heartbreak beat

  • Kim,

So glad to see your second post in the Lyric Challenge. Also glad you’re okay from Hurrican Florence. We got some rain and a bit of wind but nothing horrible. My umbrellas got hit quite a few times yesterday while running errands. It rained lightly all day making for a bad hair day, so if that’s all I have to complain about then life is good, right? 🙂

Thanks for sharing the dance floor with me, dearie. Have a tunetastic week!

    • We actually haven’t gotten ANY rain or anything from Florence (despite the pic of the rainbow….we got a rainbow, but no rain.) down here in Alabama. But one of our weather forecasters said last week that all the moisture in our area would be pulled into the storm and we’d stay dry. Well, the *rain* may have been pulled in, but definitely not the moisture. It’s been so hot and humid I’ve felt like I would literally wilt at times. So over it.

      • Kim,

We got light rains from Florence and high humidity. That really drains a person quicker than anything. At least once the heat lets up some, then even when the humidity is high I can deal with that better when it’s cooler weather. During the summer, I’m like you I feel like I’m melting away!
