Like clockwork…

Like clockwork…

Twilight. Huntsville, AL. November 2017. I have what I like to call an annual Thanksgiving sinus infection. Every year, around and through Thanksgiving, without fail, there is a nasty sinus infection to deal with. I thought this year I had escaped the curse, because I had no symptoms leading up to this catastrophe (except unexplained exhaustion). But no. Last night, out of nowhere, my allergies exploded with an intensity I couldn’t deal with on my own. I was forced to…

If you’re ready for Thanksgiving, raise your hand!

If you’re ready for Thanksgiving, raise your hand!

Y’all! Thanksgiving is exactly ONE WEEK away! Are you ready? I guess I’m as ready as I’m going to get. My household consists of me, my two sons, and this year, the girlfriend of my youngest son, and I think I can pull off a small, non-traditional celebration without too much work or expense. I managed last year, and actually thought it turned out rather nice. This year, I’ll be working Thanksgiving from 5:30-midnight, then coming back for a daytime…

“A” for effort?

“A” for effort?

I totally didn’t want to wake up today. I’m not sure why. I’m not depressed or anxious, and I got a good night’s sleep. But I *AM* extremely tired. And it dawned on me this morning as I was updating iOS on my phone and frantically trying to figure out how to stop Spotify from automatically launching at startup on my laptop that I have got to come up with a better game plan. I think a mishmash of posts…

Music Monday – One Hit Wonders

Music Monday – One Hit Wonders

Today is a real treat over at Dolly’s; the theme for Monday’s Music Moves Me is “One Hit Wonders from when you were in High School”. Photo Credit: gotnolove.deviantart.com I was in high school from the mid-to-late ’80s, and there was no shortage of one-hit wonders during that time. But for me, Hair Metal was king. While I’m taking creative liberties here, I’m not really sure they can be called one-hit wonders. For one thing, these weren’t mainstream hits. The…

NaBloPoMo Day 12

NaBloPoMo Day 12

I actually made it twelve days without being late (although I’ve been totally late and even inactive at linking up at the various places hosting link-ups) or skipping a day. I know the quality of posts hasn’t been that great, but have you seen my site lately? Because I’ve been working on customizing my theme and getting stuff added. For now, I’m keeping the gorgeous (to me) header which gives me all the feels: I picture a quaint lake town…

We’ve gotta stop meeting like this.

We’ve gotta stop meeting like this.

I know, I know. I should probably have posts ready first thing in the morning instead of writing them at night and then sneaking the submissions in before midnight my time so they “count”. Honestly? Even if a post is a day late, or one was skipped…does anyone really care? I don’t. I just enjoy reading and participating. Today was absolutely productive: up at 7:30 AM with the dogs, started the day’s laundry, started the day’s dishes, and then? I…

Another work week down.

Another work week down.

And I couldn’t be happier, because right now I have (most) nights and weekends off – which I know is SUPER RARE in the retail world. I really hope I am kept on this schedule from here on out! So I’ve come to the close of my first full week (and a few days – weeks end on Friday for me on the blog!) of NaBloPoMo, and I’m actually doing better than I thought I would. I’ve made it in…

Last night almost broke me.

Last night almost broke me.

Both literally and figuratively. I had gotten home after my long, taxing work day (double shift) only to find that all hell had broken loose here in the form of my youngest son’s work van being stranded with a flat tire and no spare, and him in a panic because our money situation? Is one I can’t even talk about right now for fear of setting myself up for a panic attack. And ain’t nobody got time for that. By…

(Mostly) Wordless Wednesday

(Mostly) Wordless Wednesday

On a trip to the lake earlier this year, I snapped a pic of this pile of firewood and I couldn’t help but notice the striking similarity to Edvard Munch’s “The Scream”. Do you see it? The first large piece in the upper right corner. It even looks to me like it’s got “hands” framing the “face”, though one hand is covering an “ear” and the other is down at his “chin”. Oh, and the log is facing the opposite…
