Lyrical Challenge, Day 1

Last week, Cathy over at Curious As A Cathy challenged me to the 3-day Lyrical Challenge, and I accepted! I accepted last week, but had a six day work week and didn’t have time to give it the proper thought and attention it needed. So here it is this week. Thank you, Cathy, for nominating me!

The Rules:
1 Thank the person who nominated you.
2 Share one of your favorite song/lyrics one at a time for three days.
3 Nominate three other bloggers each day.

This song is by a band that had a semi-popular run in the late 90s called Oleander, and the lyrics were exactly what I needed to hear and face at the time. They’re not exact, but they really, really spoke to me at a time when I needed to just acknowledge my feelings and move on, rather than making myself crazy trying to figure out how to make a doomed relationship work. (SPOILER ALERT: it takes two willing people to make a relationship work, not one person wanting it badly enough for the both of you and putting in ALL the work.)

Oleander: “I Walk Alone”

I can’t take this anymore
And I’m almost pretty sure
I’ve been here before
I can’t take this any longer
I won’t heal until I’m stronger
Strong enough to not be afraid
Of what anybody thinks
Of what anybody says
About the way
About the way I am
So I’ll wait until the day
When those feelings fade away
Then I’ll make my break
I can’t take this anymore
And I’m almost pretty sure
I’ve been here before
I can’t take this any longer
I won’t heal until I’m stronger
Strong enough to not be afraid
So I leave it up to you
Yeah I leave it in your hands
Respect your wishes and your demands
But if it was up to me
Honey we’d already be back home
And living out our dreams
Living out
Everybody and everything I’ve known
Never taught me how to stand up on my own
Had to learn it from the one who let me go
Now I walk alone, yeah I walk alone, yeah
Living blissfully
I guess you had to step away
To make me want to be
A bigger man, a bigger man than that
I need you by my side
As I take it all in stride
I put away, I put away my pride
Oh I leave it up to you
Yeah I leave it in your hands
Respect your wishes and your demands
But if it was up to me
Honey we’d already be back at home
And living out
Everybody and everything I’ve known
Never taught me how to stand up on my own
Had to learn it from the one who let me go
Now I walk alone
Yeah I walk alone, yeah
I walk alone
I walk alone
I walk alone
I walk alone
I walk, oh yeah

I look forward to the next two days’ challenges. Be sure to come back and see what else I’ll share!

As for nominating others, this is where I annoy everyone and skip out. But honestly, I just don’t have enough readers to nominate. Maybe when the blog gets a little bit bigger?
