Music Monday for 8.27.18

Hello, hello, Music Monday-ers! I haven’t been around in a while (feel free to read this weekend’s Writer’s Workshop post to get caught up if you are so inclined), but it looks like I came back at a great time for me because Mary from Jingle Jangle Jungle selected this week’s Monday’s Music Moves Me theme over at Xmas Dolly’ssongs with beverages in the title. Not only is Mary the one I used to raise hell with (and one of the few who truly appreciated many of my “way, way out there” song selections) back when I used to participate in Battle of the Bands, our musical tastes are very similar. Not to mention, I love me some music with beverages in the title, particularly of the adult variety! Not to be confused with “drinking music”, which sometimes – but not always – overlaps.

Without further ado, here are my selections. I narrowed it down to four, from different genres (Classic Rock, Country, Alternative, and Psychedelic Rock), and I tried to pick some that maybe the other participants wouldn’t share. So I will be very interested to see what everyone else is sharing, and especially if Mary and I selected any of the same songs!

ZZ Top – “Beer Drinkers and Hell Raisers”

Garth Brooks – “Two Pina Coladas” (the only video with Garth Brooks actually singing – and not a cover – was this one. Enjoy some line dancing while watching!)

Oasis – “Champagne Supernova”

Cream – “Strange Brew” I’m not the biggest Cream fan, but I’ve always loved this song!

I really, really wanted to include Chris Stapleton’s “Tennessee Whiskey” and The Doors’ “Alabama Song”, but figured those might already make it onto at least one list.

Be sure to head to Dolly’s to see what others posted, and to participate yourself!

  • Wonderful songs. Thanks for sharing them.

  • Nice selections, and unique. I don’t think anyone else had these (but I’m not finished looking at everyone’s).

    • I tried my best to get some unique ones, so thank you! I can’t wait to look around and see what everyone else shared! Thank you for stopping by!

  • Welcome back! Great choices. I particularly like the ZZ Top one.

  • Welcome back, Kim!

Thank you for your kind words. I just want to let you know that you are not alone in your troubles. You mustn’t neglect the music – it will get you through some really tough times! I am living proof of that.

I loved your selection today. We were definitely along the some wavelength, but didn’t have any crossover!

Now… if I can only convince you to come back to battle of the bands… if only just once a month…

    • I am seriously considering it! I love participating, but in the past it just became too hard to get around to see everybody and listen to all their selections. I know there are several days in which to do that, and I did love listening to everything. But it did become too time-consuming for me to remain committed to. I sure miss it, though!

What has been getting me through my tough times here lately is just literally vegging in front of the tv, bingeing on series and a movie every now and then. But I am starting to get back out of my shell just a little – I’m cleaning and cooking more now, and that has led to at least a slight attitude adjustment for the better.

  • Howdy Kim!

It’s great to see you long last back on the dance floor again. You did indeed step back at a good time with this week’s interestingly, different theme thanks to this month honorary co-host, Mary. Your selections with the exception of “Two Pina Coladas” haven’t played on the turntable for this party, so way-to-go with your song choices and they are introductions to me, too. What a great beginning to boogieing with the 4M gang! I hope to see you back next week if not before. You mentioned BoTB and that’s just around the corner. Have a boogietastic and blessed week, my friend!

    • Thank you so much for stopping by, Cathy! I don’t think I’ll be able to participate in the upcoming BotB, but I definitely hope to come out and listen!

  • I never got into line dancing but when I saw the video with “Two Pina Coladas” I had so much fun with the song (and the dancing); it was like slow motion Zumba. I can do this!! I haven’t heard “Strange Brew” in years! Nice set that is (mostly) new to today’s theme!

    • LOL, I just got into line dancing (though that is not the reason I shared that video; it really *was* the only one I could find that didn’t have a cover) more as a fitness effort, as it’s something I can do from the privacy of my own home. I do hope to actually learn some pretty well one of these days – I used to think it was just different turns and stomping, but to my surprise, it is a lot more complicated (to me) than it looked!

  • GREAT to see you, Kim! You’ve been sorely missed! 🙂 I was *thisclose* to posting the Two Pina Coladas song – that exact video! Glad you did, so I could listen to it again. Love that song! Love all your choices! 🙂 Hope you’re having a great weekend!

    • You should have! It’s a great song, isn’t it? I have missed my dancing days with the 4M crew. I hope I’m back on an at least semi-regular basis now!

  • Hi there Kim! Long time no “see”. Good to see you here!
I’m late making the rounds for last Monday’s beverage songs but I’m here at least. Hope you can make it by my place too. I’ll provide the link at the bottom here.

We definitely have the same taste in music: my first song was ZZ Top Beer Drinkers and Hell Raisers too! I love that song. That’s possibly my favorite ZZ Top song….
We also shared Cream’s Strange Brew and the Oasis song. Champagne Supernova is such a good song!
BUT Garth Brooks “Two Pina Coladas” is new to me. And that line dancing video is a trip. I could never line dance. I’m not good at following. How in the hell do people learn all those steps?? Is there only one kind of line dance and they’re all the same? Or are there different ones for different songs? I have not a clue…
It looks cool but I’d make an ass of myself on the dance floor if I ever joined a line dance. Kinda like how I did when I tried Zumba for the first time!

Glad you’re back in the fold! You missed a really fun battle tournament that Mary (Jingle Jangle Jungle) teamed up on for the last few weeks. You should stop by and vote: it’s a Dog vs Cat BOTB Tournament and we’re in the Championship Round: Led Zeppelin’s “Black Dog” vs Harry Chapin’s “Cats in the Cradle”. We’ve had a bunch of fun.
As far as time goes, a lot of us cut back to doing one battle per month, most of us choosing to do it on the 15th of each month. It’s more manageable and not as overwhelming when doing two a month. Maybe you can join us again there.

I’m not doing tomorrow’s Monday’s Music post: just didn’t have time to put something together but I’ll be back for the following week. Cathy Kennedy is the Conductor for the month of September (and then I’m it for October).
Please stop by and check out my beverage “Welcome to My Bar” post when you get a chance:

    Great to see you again!~
Have a fun Labor Day…or at least a relaxing one. Wish I could just sleep the day away…. I’m dying to have one of those days….

    Michele at Angels Bark

    • Oh, it is so good to see you again, Michele! I will definitely come by and see you here soon. I haven’t done a 4Ms today yet, and am debating it…but I hope to get something new up by the end of tonight. I will definitely try to get caught up on the BotBs, too, but will probably have to wait a bit more to start. My blogging is so sporadic right now, and I really want to at least get in the habit of posting twice a week regularly before I commit to anything else. Because as it stands, I barely crank out two blog hop posts a week, and sometimes not even that.

As for line dancing, that would not have been my video of choice to showcase line dancing (though it looks like a LOT of fun and they were good at it!), but there are some professionally made ones and some instructional ones that are fantastic! See, I have a different perspective on the line dancing – I know there are different ones, but for some reason it never looked all that complicated to me. Till I tried it. I am starting to teach myself with the instructional videos I find on YouTube, but I use it more as a fitness tool than for actually learning to dance. I hope I can master some of them one of these days, but I’m a terrible dancer, and have trouble following along as well! I would make an ass of myself on the dance floor if I jumped in with people that know what they’re doing! Or heck, even if I did it myself.
