Music Monday – The Year In Music

This year brought us some amazing new music!

I was especially happy for albums from the likes of Dropkick Murphys, Grave Digger, Little Big Town, Old 97s, Rhiannon Giddens, Body Count, Father John Misty, Greta Van Fleet, Incubus, All That Remains, Gorillaz, Chris Stapleton, Willie Nelson, Keb Mo’, Zac Brown Band, Papa Roach, Snoop Dogg, Roger Waters, Iced Earth, Portugal The Man, Stone Sour, Nine Inch Nails, Prong, Living Color, Prophets of Rage, Foo Fighters, The Killers, and Weezer, and a new song from Thirty Seconds To Mars!

As happens every year, we also lost many great musicians. This is by no means a complete list, but the ones that hit me the most:

  • Pat DiNizio (Smithereens)
  • David Cassidy
  • Della Reese
  • Mel Tillis
  • Malcolm Young (AC/DC)
  • Fats Domino
  • Martin Eric Ain (Celtic Frost)
  • Gordon Downie (Tragically Hip)
  • Tom Petty
  • Glen Campbell
  • Gregg Allman
  • Al Jarreau
  • Geoff Nichols
  • Chester Bennington
  • Chris Cornell

RIP.

2017 was also the year that saw me traveling to more shows than any year since 2011.

There was Green Day in March:

with Special Guests Against Me!:

Followed by The Damned in May:

And then in June, Thirty Seconds To Mars:

who were actually Special Guests of Muse:

But who am I kidding? While I *LOVE* Muse, I was totally there for Thirty Seconds To Mars!

And then in October, it was Foo Fighters:

with Special Guests The Struts:

Of these bands, I had seen TSTM and Foo Fighters Back in 2011. 2011 and 2017 have definitely been great years for music for me. I hope 2018 will bring even more music, travel, and concerts with friends! Right now, my biggest goal is to get to this year’s Voodoo Fest in New Orleans. Wish me luck!!! I don’t even know who’s going to be performing, but it has been entirely too long since I visited New Orleans and for that alone, this needs to happen. Plus, music on Halloween weekend? I’d be the happiest person on the planet!

For Music Monday/Monday’s Music Moves Me/Tuesday Tunes, I’m going with Thirty Seconds To Mars‘s “Walk On Water”:

Their videos are always spectacular and thought-provoking.

Head over to Dolly’s for your Christmas music fix! And be sure to link me up to any year-in-music or other music-type posts….I want to read them all!

  • Wow, sounds like a great year in music to me!!! I wonder who will be opening for the Foos when I see them next July. I would love it to be The Struts. Here’s hoping you get to New Orleans and that 2018 is another great year in music!

  • That was an absolutely awesome video (and song). I am not much of a concertgoer – not big into crowds – but you have many good memories now. So many musicians lost these past two years but still so much good music out there.

    • I’ve found that the older I get, the less I like dealing with crowds. I also hate being so far away from the stage that I have to watch shows on the jumbotron, though. That’s why I need a boyfriend in a band – so I can watch shows from side stage or a VIP suite!
