The post I’ve been wanting to make, but avoided making for the longest time

And it isn’t anything bad or anything like that; I’ve just been hesitant to make it because I had hoped I’d have it figured out on my own by now. It’s near the end of NaBloPoMo, so, the skies should be parting and the angels should be singing and I should know everything I needed to know about how to get this site rolling again by now, right? Except it never works that way, so here I am for advice.

So, NaBloPoMo has been very good for me in so many ways. I’ve met new bloggers, I’ve actually posted every day on time (just before midnight my time sometimes, but hey! that totally counts!), I’ve joined FB groups which focus on helping bloggers grow, which brings me to this post. The one I’ve been wanting to make, but avoided making for the longest time.

I’m trying to grow my blog in every way possible. I will keep putting in the time and I will keep writing (though probably not daily once November is over), and hopefully that will, in and of itself, organically grow a readership of some sort. But I’m at a point in my life where I want – and unfortunately NEED – to try to make a bit of money with this thing.

How do people do it? I am still doing my best to pore through all the information the various FB groups have gathered and make sense of it all. I’ve signed up for some sponsored gigs, and thankfully, I understand how sponsored posts work. But I’ve also signed up for some affiliate marketing accounts, and I haven’t made any effort to pursue things further. Mainly because I really don’t understand how all that works. So…to those of you who do affiliate marketing, how exactly does that work? I want to do it all, and be sure I do it correctly. And advertising? To those of you who do ads, who should I work with? I know I’m not a big blog, and I shouldn’t be so picky. BUT, it’s really important to me to only work with brands and products that are in line with my ethics and interests. Meh. I guess that can come later, after I figure out how to navigate that form of monetization.

But time….November is an extremely busy month in my field, and it’s been really, really hard to find time to post, let alone read and comment, let alone try to learn new information and apply accordingly. My motto has always been “there’s no time like the present,” but actually? Yeah, I probably could have picked a better time to try all this.

All this to say, I’m not done here, and I welcome any advice you can give me on growing my little blog!

  • Just keep doing what you’re doing and if you’re able to at some point I’d recommend attending a blogging conference. I know something that can be expensive, but there might be close to home you could attend.

  • I don’t know much (anything, really) about this stuff either. No plans to monetize my blog or blogging at this point, but someday, who knows? There are some podcasts and blogs that you can sign up for and that might be helpful, like ProBlogger. Good luck, Kim!
