If you’re ready for Thanksgiving, raise your hand!

Y’all! Thanksgiving is exactly ONE WEEK away! Are you ready? I guess I’m as ready as I’m going to get. My household consists of me, my two sons, and this year, the girlfriend of my youngest son, and I think I can pull off a small, non-traditional celebration without too much work or expense. I managed last year, and actually thought it turned out rather nice.

This year, I’ll be working Thanksgiving from 5:30-midnight, then coming back for a daytime shift the next day. This can be potentially brutal because I worked till midnight last year, but the place was so trashed it took me 45 minutes to get it cleaned up. I’m not sure if I’ll have help the entire time we’re open or not. Thank goodness I had Friday off, because I was exhausted, feeling under the weather, and more importantly, had told them not to schedule me so I could watch Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life:

What? You don’t use your son’s teeth mold as decor on your tv stand? You are really missing out!

So far for food I’m thinking of both traditional (but served up non-traditionally) and finger foods for Friday evening after work when I (attempt to) start decorating for the holidays.

Last year’s Thanksgiving meal, on an adorable, unidentified vintage plate. Simple, but delicious!

I didn’t do turkey last year (and won’t this year, but more on that in a future post), but we had ham and traditional sides. This year I’m thinking ham (and maybe turkey if I can find prepared turkey) slices on King’s Hawaiian rolls, with traditional sides of dressing, potatoes, and veggies. Chocolate cake and cheesecake for dessert. Cream cheese wonton, sausage balls, macaroni bites or mozzarella sticks, and possibly cocktail sausages with spiked Egg Nog for Friday’s decorating.

What are your plans for Thanksgiving? Will you be out shopping?

  • Oh, I’m drooling just thinking about Thanksgiving since the food is my favorite part of the day. I won’t be shopping and I wish more retailers were closed that day, but that’s just my opinion. Ours will be a small group, which is perfect for me since I do most of the work. Also, OMG I love Gilmore Girls!

  • I’m actually flying solo for Thanksgiving dinner this year for the first time ever. But my daughter and I are going to do breakfast together, and so I’m going to casserole it up – or something. And maybe make myself some Stove Top for dinner. 😉 I also bought some turkey to toss in the crockpot – which – we’ll see.

    Hope you’re feeling better soon!
