I clearly wasn’t thinking when I made the commitment to #NaBloPoMo during an election year, and as a result, I’ve been on a self-imposed, week-and-a-half long break. I’d probably sit this week out, too, but as it turns out I am now sidelined with a pretty serious sinus infection which has kept me housebound for several days. I may as well catch up.
Long story short: I knew the election was going to be bad, and take a lot out of me. And I was not wrong. I couldn’t really focus on anything else, and in the aftermath, I also couldn’t really focus on anything else. I’ve seen so much ugliness on my social media feeds – gloating from those whose candidate won and name-calling and general sore-losering from those whose candidate didn’t win. Read of peaceful protests turning violent, and emboldened bigots openly harassing POC. It all knocked me on my ass, and other than being a woman, I am not even part of a marginalized group. For someone like myself with empathetic tendencies, this is still quite overwhelming.
But this isn’t a post about politics – I know what I will be doing in my community to network with others and do more to get people elected who represent me and those I care about – but I put my nervous energy to use getting productive on the home front over the weekend as well. Saturday was a good day for making! I made a batch of:
- Homemade Laundry Soap
- Homemade Disinfecting Cleaener
- Homemade Disinfecting Room Spray
- Homemade Stain Remover (the only one you will EVER need!)
- Homemade Youth Serum
- Homemade Lash/Brow Boost
- Homemade Linen Sprays
And I think I could have made more, but the poor air quality here on Sunday started my downfall – brutal allergy symptoms all day, sinus infection by night, messed up chest today. Unfortunately, none of my homemade concoctions were illness or breathing-related.
I will be sharing these recipes over the course of the next few weeks, if anyone is interested!
